Zakho SC have extended Nigerian winger Deputy Echeta’s contract through the end of the 2026–27 season, following his strong performances since arriving in Iraq.
The 24 year old, who joined from Rivers United, impressed with his pace and attacking contributions, prompting the Iraqi side to secure his services for an additional two years.
Editorial
We interpret Echeta’s contract extension as a clear vote of confidence. For a young Nigerian talent, landing in a foreign league and earning a longer-term deal signals not just potential, but promise realised. By committing to 2027, Zakho SC shows they believe Echeta can play a pivotal role in their future not just as a squad member, but as a key attacking outlet.
We recognise the courage required for such a transition. Leaving home, adjusting to a new culture and league, and proving oneself all over again is not easy. Echeta has navigated that path well, and the extension confirms he hasn’t just adapted he is contributing. It reflects the philosophy that growth abroad isn’t automatic; it must be earned.
We believe Echeta’s trajectory underscores the value of patience and perseverance. Many Nigerian prospects in lesser-known leagues struggle for consistency after the initial move. This renewal suggests that Echeta has done more than just settle he has convinced his club that he belongs, and that belief warrants nurturing over time.
We hold firm to the idea that long-term contracts give young players security, responsibility, and an environment to truly grow. For Echeta, this next chapter could be transformative—not only for his career, but as a model for how Nigerian footballers abroad might build meaningful and stable careers. We began this story hoping for breakthrough; we continue it believing in progress.
