An advert for a wagering firm seen on the dating app Tinder has been banned for linking gambling to sexual success.
The ad for William Hill, which was sent as a message to users, read: "Stuck in the friend zone? You won't be for a lot longer if you utilize this Cheltenham [horse racing] complimentary bet offer."
It was followed by a link to download the William Hill app.
But the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) stated it needs to not appear once again in its current form.
It said that, according to advertising rules, gambling advertisements need to not connect betting to "seduction, sexual success or boosted beauty".
"We thought about that the text ... suggested that those who bet would be most likely to establish a friendship into a sexual relationship and for that reason linked gambling with sexual success," it said.
William Hill at first protected the March advert after a customer complained.
The firm stated customers who registered would "participate in a relationship with William Hill", and the advert was supposed to relate this to the nature of business they were advertising on - Tinder.
It said it was not its objective to connect betting to sexual success.
However, upon reflection it concurred the advertisement might have been misinterpreted and took it down willingly.
William Hill stated: "We take on board what the ASA have stated about this particular advert and have removed it from flow."
Tinder on the other hand said it had evaluated the advertisement before publishing it, finding it was not socially careless, offensive or targeting minors.
'Speechless'
Campaigners have actually been calling for harder guideline of gambling marketing.
